Join an International Academy Family
From a vibrant social life to excellent facilities, residential school life provides opportunities like no other.
Each student will join a diverse Academy family of students and staff, developing lifelong connections. In Grade 9, they may spend a term at another school in our network through the Student Exchange Programme, immersing themselves in a new culture.

Mastering the Art of Cooking
Qamili Dave is a passionate culinary arts professional from Mombasa, Kenya and a Class of 2017 alumna of AKA Mombasa. Her time at the Academy was an enriching experience that helped shape her confidence and future aspirations. The open and trusting environment encouraged her to speak up, ask questions and believe in her abilities.
One of her proudest accomplishments was the opportunity to intern at the Serena Beach Hotel in Mombasa through the Academy’s University Counselling Department. This experience helped her confirm her desire to pursue a career in culinary arts.
“Although I knew I loved to cook, I wasn’t sure it was the right profession for me,” she said. “During my internship, I realised I was on the right path.”
Reflecting on her journey, Qamili encourages current students to appreciate their teachers and take advantage of internship opportunities offered by the Academy.

From Tajikistan to Mombasa
“I look back at my childhood in Tajikistan, when I had to hike more than six kilometres through the mountains during frosty winters to reach school. At the age of 12, my life changed when I was accepted to AKA Mombasa with full financial aid and travelled thousands of miles from home. I was given the opportunity to shape my character and thinking within the IB curriculum.
The Academy helped me become more self-aware, empathetic, organised and balanced. It strengthened my goal of returning to Tajikistan to contribute to its development and equipped me with skills that guide my growth.
I studied architectural studies at the University of Toronto as a recipient of the Ontario Tuition Waiver through the Academy’s University Counselling Department. I am determined to become an architect who will help transform the urban landscape of Badakhshan.”

Passionate About Change in the Community
Lilian Odera is a 2015 alumna of AKA Mombasa and a committed leader focused on positive change. At the Academy, Lilian developed her leadership skills through the curriculum and co-curricular life, serving as a House Captain and a member of the Student Representative Council. In her final year, she received the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow award to study at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada recognising academic achievement, leadership and community service.
