The Aga Khan Academies Student Exchange Programme completed its fifth cycle from 13 January to 29 March, with over 45 students from the Academies in Mombasa, Kenya, Hyderabad, India and Maputo, Mozambique spending one semester abroad on different campuses.

Aga Khan Academy Mombasa celebrates 20 years of excellence

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa in Kenya celebrated its 20th anniversary on Monday, 19 February in the presence of Princess Zahra Aga Khan. Established in 2003, the Academy in Mombasa was inaugurated by His Highness the Aga Khan, the founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), and the former late president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki. It is the first in an integrated, global network of residential schools known as the Aga Khan Academies, with other campuses located in Hyderabad, India, Maputo, Mozambique and Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Aga Khan Schools celebrates International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Through the use of 3D printing and designing, I have been able to make two physical prototypes that are basically tangible demonstrations of how the device will administer its medicine. These prototypes aim to showcase the basics of the inhaler’s functionality, together with the wristband factor, emphasising the depth of its ease of use and comfort for individuals with rigorous asthmatic symptoms.

Aga Khan Schools students win Global Youth Action Fund from IB

The Global Youth Action Fund (GYAF) is a prestigious award designed to honour students with unique ideas and innovations addressing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The GYAF is a part of the International Baccalaureate’s Festival of Hope, which was designed to create spaces for young people to come together and speak their truth. The award is open to any student or student group from aged 12 to 19 with an idea they believe will impact the community. Winners of the award receive grant funding, an eight-week online training course on social entrepreneurship and mentorship from current leaders in social entrepreneurship.

Aga Khan Schools Climate and Environment Conference 2023

From 10-11 November 2023, the Aga Khan Schools (AKS) held its annual Climate and Environment Conference. The conference was attended by more than 160 students from the Aga Khan Academies in Dhaka, Hyderabad, Maputo and Mombasa, Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School, Dar es Salaam; The Aga Khan School, Dhaka; Aga Khan High School, Kampala; Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi; Aga Khan School, Garden, Diamond Jubilee High School, Mumbai; Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi; and Aga Khan School, Osh.

On Thursday 14 November 2019, the International Exchange Manager for the Aga Khan Academies, Elizabeth MacFarlane, conducted two sessions introducing the Student Exchange Programme, which will now engage Aga Khan Academy Maputo students. Introduced in 2018, the exchange enables Academies’ Year 9 students to study and live at another Academy for three months, from the end of August to the beginning of December.

The October break in Hyderabad included a trip to Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu, and the students in Mombasa had the opportunity to go on safari. The students in Mombasa also moved in with host families for part of the break where they could experience day to day life in their host country.
