Residential Experience at AKA Maputo
Through a supportive environment, residential students at AKA Maputo learn how to become more independent, form strong bonds with their residential families and participate in service projects with community partners.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Many of the most important elements of an education – the development of practical leadership skills, the capacity to make ethical judgments and the ability to navigate through complex cultural settings – are formed outside the classroom. Mealtimes and other gatherings provide the opportunity for students to talk, study and relax with each other. Our residential programme enables them to continue building these connections with others, as well as to take advantage of the facilities and activities on offer.
We offer students the opportunity to become proficient in creative and physical activities as well as in their academic studies and service projects. Find out more about the sports, expression activities and service learning elements of student life.
Since 2019, the residential programme at AKA Maputo has been a second home for students from all over the world.
Different activities are offered to residential students on the weekends, allowing them chances to bond.
Residential students share a room with up to three students and have separate study and storage spaces.
In the residences at AKA Maputo, students learn important life skills, such as doing their laundry and ironing their clothes.
Residential students have plenty of free time to play sports, study or be with friends on the weekends at AKA Maputo.
Residential students have an allocated time and space to do their homework in the evenings.
A Home From Home
We host our students on a secure campus, with appropriate safeguards on and off-site. They learn independence in many ways, from time management to doing their laundry, but have a supportive system of advisors, dorm parents and other staff to rely on, and plenty of opportunity to communicate with their families.

Never-ending Adventures Through the Residences
“Each day is an adventure in the residences at AKA Maputo. On the weekdays, we wake up at 6 am, get ready and go to school. Classes end at 2.45 pm, followed by activities like yoga or basketball. Residential students then have an hour of study time for homework or revision. Afterwards, we have snacks and free time to relax or play tag, which always brings out our inner child.
During free time, we can do what we like. I often go to the dance studio, while others hang out and chat. After that, we have dinner, then a short break before our second study time. When study time ends, we have snacks and return to our rooms. Lights out is at 9.30 pm on weekdays and 10.30 pm on weekends.
