Professional Development Centre
Our teachers are committed to continuing professional development to give students an educational experience based on current best practice. We also offer training for educators and school leaders around the country, sharing knowledge to benefit other schools.

What We Offer
Our teachers are dedicated to developing themselves as well as our students. Educational instructors at the Professional Development Centre support them to deepen their expertise and put their training into practice. They also collaborate with colleagues across the Aga Khan Schools to share their experience.
We consult with teachers, school leaders and government education bodies to support national education priorities, and have developed outreach programmes for government, private and not-for-profit schools.
Training topics include:
- Teaching literacy and numeracy
- Using activities in science lessons
- Encouraging participation in maths classes
- Using technology effectively
- Managing classes of students
- Advanced English language
- Providing leadership and management in education
- Sharing knowledge with other teachers
With post-course support for participants and a community feel throughout, we are creating a network of collaborative teachers and school leaders, ready to help each other raise the next generation.

A Teacher Preparation Programme is offered to train teachers and certify them as IB teachers.
Teachers receive certifications in various training programmes to enhance their pedagogical skills.
Teachers can participate in numerous courses relating to literacy, numeracy and more.

The Aga Khan Academy Maputo’s Professional Development Centre (PDC) hosted a closing ceremony for its educational management and leadership course on 19 July 2024. The course, in its fifth year of running, is offered to public school managers from the Matola District Service for Education, Youth and Technology.

Rosa Jorge: Encouraging expression through the arts
Participating in theatre and drama activities helped Rosa Jorge from a very young age. It gave her the courage to break out of her shell and now she wants to empower her students at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo with the same tools to become well rounded individuals.
