Grades 9-12 attend several on-campus university fairs to gain insights on application processes and courses globally.

Career Preparation

Students try out a wide range of activities across fields such as art, music, dance and drama, using purpose-built facilities such as our music rooms, amphitheatres and exercise studios. They gain experience not only in their chosen activities, but in teamwork, perseverance, responsibility and leadership as they specialise during their senior years.

Experiencing the World of Work

DP1 students may apply for an internship over their July and August break, gaining essential workplace experience, university application material and career inspiration. Previous students have contributed to their local AKDN agencies and other grass-level NGOs, volunteering in medical, financial, tourism and educational fields as well as more specialist areas.

Suhana Ohri’s passion for psychology and child development led her to intern at the Rainbow Children’s Hospital and the In-Sync Center for Child Development and Autism Therapy.

Rithvik Maganti interned at a leading political analysis firm, where he gained experience in campaign planning, voter survey design and expenditure tracking.

“My passion for child psychology grew through internships at Rainbow Children’s Hospital and In-Sync Center for Child Development and Autism Therapy, where I earned a mentor’s recommendation. Inspired by these experiences, I authored and self-published a book, ‘Lost and Found’ on Amazon, promoting emotional resilience. My efforts were recognised with the Immerse Education Academic Distinction Award.”

University Counselling

We have dedicated university counsellors who work with staff, students and their families to navigate the application process, connect with university admissions staff and apply for scholarships.

Throughout their Grade 10 and Diploma Programme years, our university counsellors provide various opportunities and resources for students to prepare them for their university careers:

Grade 10

We help students choose their subjects of study according to their strengths and goals.

Grade 10 and DP1

We guide students through exploratory and reflective exercises to discover and articulate their strengths.

Early DP1

We help students understand the application processes in different countries and to shortlist universities and courses.

DP1, DP2

We facilitate visits from university representatives, who discuss their offerings with students.
We offer workshops for families on funding university studies and help students consider appropriate options.

Late DP1, DP2

Through workshops and individual assistance, we help students craft essays and complete forms for university applications, create resumes and practise their interview skills.

DP2

We nominate students for scholarships, both Academy-specific and global.
We assist students in selecting a university, applying for visas and navigating other steps.

Forging a pathway to success

During her DP, Diana Nizari, a Class of 2021 alumna, participated in two internships through the Academy’s University Counselling Department, which helps students find internships or summer programmes to engage in. The internship experiences, along with her time at the Academy and exposure to the IB curriculum, helped her gain time management skills and encouraged her to explore her passions.

When Diana learnt about her acceptance and full scholarship to Brown University in the US, she was overfilled with joy and gratitude. For Diana, the ongoing support of others is what enabled her to get this far.

“My teachers, my family members, the Academy and my classmates have all supported me so much. If I hadn’t come to the Academy in the first place, none of this would be possible at all and I am beyond grateful for being able to study here and begin this new chapter in my life.”
