Our campuses become a home away from home for students and staff who share their unique cultures with each other and form a tight-knit community.

The Campus Experience

Campus life enriches the students’ academic experience. It offers new activities, leadership opportunities and chances for interaction. While learning independence in some ways, students are supported to thrive emotionally, intellectually and physically.

An Inspirational Environment

Each campus aims to inspire its residents and visitors to learn, work, play and live to their full potential. Academy sites are chosen with care, and campuses are designed by renowned architects and purpose-built to provide exceptional facilities for all aspects of student life.

Residential Life

In many ways, residential life teaches students to be independent, and the Academies soon become a second home for them. Each student has a dorm family of peers with whom to socialise, a dorm captain who acts as an older sibling and a residential parent who monitors their well-being. With pastoral care a priority, students also have access to specialised counsellors and a well-equipped health centre.

Students form a home away from home in the Academy’s residences.
Students learn how to iron, do laundry and keep their living spaces tidy.

Meet a Dorm Parent

"Being a residential parent at AKA Mombasa was my favourite thing to do during my time there. There are times throughout the experience where I felt more like an older sister to the students by providing them advice on school-related and non-school-related things, consoling them when they missed home, and just chatting about what was going on in our lives.

When I am assigned for duty on the weekends, I feel the most connected to the students. We spend some time off-campus at the movie theatre, on a hiking trail or at the beach, but also on-campus when I am supervising the pool area or basketball court during our sports hour. I will also forever cherish the intimate moments I had with the residential students, especially lying outside on the grass in front of the residences on the weekends before dinner time with a few students."

Dorm Duties

“I hit the snooze button three times before starting my day at 7 am. As a dorm prefect at AKA Hyderabad, I go room to room to make sure everyone is awake. After getting ready, I sign out of the dorm and head to breakfast with friends, chatting about the day ahead.

School ends at 3:30 pm, followed by snacks, volleyball and dinner at the Commons. At 7:30 pm, the prefects and I collect cookies for our dorms before study time, then study until 9:15 pm. We later return for attendance and cookie distribution, filling the dorms with laughter while supporting students who feel homesick.

Balancing the Diploma Programme with prefect duties was challenging at first, but academic support helped me find balance. Before lights out at 10:30 pm, I call my parents and finish assignments. Being a dorm prefect has taught me empathy, gratitude and the value of listening.”

What I Did Today

“Greetings from Mombasa! I am 11 years old and love swimming; I have been on the swim team since Grade 1. My day starts at 5:30 am with a 6 am practice at my favourite place on campus, the warm swimming pool. After training, we enjoy breakfast in the Commons, especially Wednesday pancakes, before heading to class at 7:45 am.

We begin with mentor time, where we discuss the day and important notices. Lessons follow, and I enjoy how different each subject is. I might film an advertisement in English, create an animation in digital design or coach a classmate in physical health education.

During breaks and lunch, I play football, basketball or walk around campus. After school, I take part in tennis, LAMDA, Model United Nations and e-sports. I also enjoy trips and competitions, including representing the Academy in swimming in Tanzania.”
