Student Activities
The Academies provide a holistic education, giving students the chance to experience new activities, deepen their expertise and take on new responsibilities in a variety of settings beyond the classroom. Sports, creative pursuits and community learning projects all help students grow into rounded young adults and apply their gifts and skills to make an impact.
Organising TEDx
“Being involved in AKA Hyderabad’s enrichment programmes has helped me stand out as a student and as an individual. There are multiple opportunities offered to all students through these programmes, such as TEDx, which I co-organised. The TEDx community at AKA Hyderabad works together for months, and being a part of this team has helped me grow in so many ways.
This experience enhanced all of my skills, made me a ferocious leader, an analytical thinker and a student who is hungry for success and undertaking new challenges every day. I was also mentored by our TEDx teachers, who helped me become responsible, independent, risk-taking, rational and hardworking. The Academy has helped me make notable accomplishments and stand out from the ordinary at the mere age of 17! I am very much looking forward to the next adventure I will take.”

My Basketball Family
“If someone told me I would be a part of AKA Mombasa’s basketball team four years ago, I would have laughed. Reflecting on that statement now, I think that my life would feel sort of incomplete without basketball in it.
Growing up as a competitive swimmer, the shift to basketball was not easy. Every practice forced me to relearn myself as an athlete and as a person. Fortunately, I have supportive coaches and teammates who keep pushing me to reach the potential they see in me. I am beyond lucky to be a part of a team that makes me feel like I am a part of a family on and off the basketball court.
Basketball has also enabled me to see the importance of relationships, communication and strategy. I now find it easier to think on my feet and plan and communicate more effectively, which in turn has helped me to become well-rounded in all aspects of my life.”

Service Learning
The Academies encourage students to develop their understanding of humanity and civil society. Through collaborating with community groups on sustainable projects, they gain an appreciation for human rights, human dignity and how their actions impact the world around them. Read more.
Teaching English in a Local School
“As part of our service learning initiative, we taught students at Anexa School, a public school in Matola, Mozambique, how to use laptops and programmes like Microsoft Word for learning. Although my classmates and I were the teachers, we also learnt about the different features of Microsoft Word and explored strategies to make our lessons engaging.
The best part was connecting with the students. Soon, we all felt comfortable with each other and the students started asking us questions, which made the teaching process a lot more successful. Through this experience, I gained confidence and a new perspective on the world. Seeing the effort Anexa students put into showing up and learning made me appreciate the high-quality education I receive at AKA Maputo. I also got to understand what it means to be a teacher and all of the hard work that goes into it.”
