The IB encourages hands-on learning beyond the classroom, and our expansive campuses provide the space for it.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme

Known for its academic rigour, the IB is used by over 5,900 schools in more than 160 countries. It aligns with the principles of the Aga Khan Academies by encouraging an understanding of other cultures and perspectives.

The Academies also benefit from a partnership between the IB and AKDN to make the curriculum meaningful to all students, develop 21st-century teaching tools, support teachers' professional growth and encourage student engagement and social responsibility.

“The IB community has thought long and hard about what it means for students to become powerfully aware of a wider world – and to deal effectively with both its bewildering diversity and its increasing interdependence.”

Creating Outward-Looking Learners

The IB curriculum is an internationally respected programme of study, known for developing open-minded, principled, reflective and inquiring learners. It offers globally relevant education that is sensitive to local contexts. At the Academies, students learn in English and in their national language, prepared to work within their communities as well as around the world.

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Aimed at students aged from 3 to 11 years old, the PYP is geared towards creating independent, confident and respectful learners. The students learn English and another language, maths, social studies, science, technology, computing, music, arts, and physical education. Throughout their learning, the children explore transdisciplinary themes spanning their own lives and learning and their interactions with others and the planet.

Middle Years Programme (MYP)

From ages 11 to 16, our students learn the major disciplines, including:

  • Language and literature

  • Integrated humanities

  • Sciences

  • Mathematics

  • Arts

  • Design

  • Physical and health education

Throughout, they develop critical thinking, self-management and reflective skills, and are encouraged to use their learning to address issues in their community. In Grade 10, they undertake the globally recognised MYP eAssessments.

“The thing I like most about my subject classes is how different they are. For example, you could be filming videos in English class for an assignment on advertising and in another, you can be creating an animation for digital design or coaching a friend through a fitness regime in physical health education.”

Diploma Programme (DP)

The pre-university programme for Grades 11 to 12 is recognised by over 4,500 universities worldwide. It encourages both breadth and depth of thinking, complemented by a study of knowledge itself; creative, physical and community service projects; and an extended essay during which the students practise independent research.

Students are assessed internally and by external examiners according to global standards.

“The Academy taught me a lot about the whole process of service, especially the idea of the service cycle and thinking sustainably when reaching out to communities. This knowledge guided me in creating my unique model of approach.”
