Primary Years Programme
Five to 10-year-olds at the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad learn and play in their dedicated Junior School area. They learn to apply their knowledge to real-world situations, develop independent and collaborative working habits and develop a sense of community.

The Junior School
Our Junior School’s facilities have been designed with the needs of younger children in mind. Alongside the multipurpose classrooms, your child has access to a library, music, art and information technology rooms, a well-equipped playground and large playing fields.
The Curriculum
Primary students take the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, or IB PYP, which covers their social, physical, cultural and ethical development. Our teachers take an interactive, student-centred approach, helping to create independent, confident and respectful learners.
Your child will gain a strong foundation in English language, mathematics, social studies, science and technology, computing, physical education, music, art and Hindi. Throughout their studies, they will cover six transdisciplinary themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organise ourselves
- Sharing the planet
My Journey in the PYP
“Ever since Grade 1, I have come to school wondering what I would learn that day – wondering what new art style I would learn in art or what writing style I would learn in language. Learning about the Aga Khan Academies Learner Profile attributes, the Aga Khan Curricular Strands and the IB approaches to learning skills helped me understand what an ideal learner would be. After learning about these in class, I always try to find an opportunity to use them.
The guest speaker sessions and the learning activities help me learn through engaging storytelling and fun activities. Library lessons are always interesting. Our interest in reading books is nurtured through engagements such as celebrating an author’s birthday or reviewing a book.
This year, during the PYP exhibition, I look forward to showcasing my learning journey to my parents and peers.”
