AKA Dhaka welcomes early years’ parents to the new academic year 

On 10 June 2024, the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka welcomed the parents of the new Kindergarten (KG) class, who are joining the Academy for the 2024-2025 academic year, to an informative and supportive session.  

The session was designed to ensure a smooth transition to the Academy for the students, enabling a positive start to their school experience. In it, parents were encouraged to engage in regular conversations with their children about school and share positive memories. They were also advised to discuss books the children have read, as this can create enthusiasm and alleviate any anxiety or uncertainties they might have about the books. Moreover, the session covered the significance of structured routines at home and fostering school preparedness through social connections, self-reliance and open conversations about emotions. Advice on clothing, healthy snacks and maintaining hygiene was also provided to ensure children’s comfort and safety. 

Open discussions on the anticipated experiences the students might feel during the initial month at the Academy were also addressed, highlighting the importance of patience and understanding as children adapt. 

"Our approach is deeply connected with early years' developmental benefits,” said Early Years Coordinator Ms Shahnaz Khan on the importance of the transition period. “We ensure that children not only adjust well but also thrive in the new environment." 

The new KG1 students also took part in the session and made new friends with their classmates. Parents commended the initiative as the experience will help students become a part of their new community.  

"The session was helpful, and it gave us a clear understanding of how to support our children during this transition," one parent said. “We have a clear vision now of what to expect from our children and how to create an enabling environment for them.”
