AKA, Hyderabad Celebrates its First Graduation Ceremony

The senior students of the Class of 2014 were honoured and farewelled last Saturday at the Academy’s first annual Graduation ceremony.

The students have completed their IB Diploma examinations and now move on to tertiary studies. 

 

The 30 members of this year’s graduating class have received offers from top-ranked universities in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and the United States. McGill University and the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada, and New York University (NYU), the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Purdue University in the United States, as well as the universities of Warwick and Southampton in the United Kingdom are amongst the many that have offered admission to members of this year’s graduating class. 


Adding to this success, students were offered upwards of US$1.5M in scholarship funding to attend.

Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad students have been offered scholarships from such institutions as the University of Southern California (USC) as well as highly competitive scholarships such as the Trent Global Citizenship Award, the International Leader of Tomorrow Award (ILOT) given by UBC and the Aga Khan Academy International Entrance Scholarship awarded by the University of Victoria (UVIC). 

This year’s Graduation was held in the grand Commons building, with accompanying performances from the Grade 10 student, Shabaz Lakhani (left) playing a piece of classical Indian music on the traditional sitar and Akanksha Devprakesh (above) from Grade 11 who performed of pieces of Kathak dancing. 

The Chief Guest was Mr Naser Munjee, Chairman of the Development Credit Bank (DCB). Mr Salim Bhatia, Director of Academies, gave the Welcome Address,  

Leela Khrishan Tunnuri, a member of the graduating cohort delivered an excerpt from His Highness' Peterson Lecture in Atlanta in 2008. Mr Ian Kerr, Acting Head of Academy, closed the ceremony with some final words of wisdom.
